The 231B, 231D, 231G, 231H and 231K all belong to the large family of PLM serie 6000 pacifics built between 1909 and 1933. The PLM built 462 pacific locomotives. From 1950 the SNCF redistributed these successful machines to replace older or less economical locomotives in the Est, Nord and Sud-Ouest regions. These machines could be see pulling the famous "le train bleu" and "Flèche d'Or".
British connection - 231K 22 spent much of the 1970s based in Steamtown Carnforth. The loco has now returned to Europe.
