Stuttgart Architectural model with railway in 1:160

Open to the public for the first time, this is the unique model system of Wolfgang Frey . Stuttgart's stations and surroundings are modelled in unprecedented original fidelity. The model buildings are all scratch built using polystyrene, plexiglas, drinking straws, packaging, etc.
All of the tracks are in perfect alignment in course and elevation to the original station throat at Stuttgart.
For years, the layout had been shrouded in mystery, appearing in magazines and on television. The exact location of Wolfgang Freys masterpiece was secret for decades. Located in a disused  S-Bahn station it was so far completely inaccessible to visitors. That has now changed.
Over an epoch of 30 years, Wolfgang Frey created an original and scale-accurate picture of Stuttgart with a terminal station, striking buildings and tracks. The result is an installation that is convincing under artistic and operational aspects, and shows Stuttgart as it was. From the 02.11.1978 to the 10.10.2012, Wolfgang Frey built his model from Stuttgart on a scale of 1:160. He created a unique work of art that was unfortunately never finished. His work ended with his much too early death in 2012.
Now known as Stellwerk S  it is owned and operated by Rainer Braun it is now located at:

Stellwerk S
Nagolder Strasse 14
71083 Herrenberg

Opening Hours: Every week Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Fascination for a hand assembled product - I would like to see a similar film on a model locomotive being manufactured. Sometimes it is hard to fully appreciate the value in something until you realise the craft and technology that is required – a complex product doesn’t just happen:
