Starting in 1955, 35 locos were constructed for the Grand Cienture line, a series of marshalling yards on the perimeter of Paris. The locos featured 2,300hp Sulzer 12 cylinder Diesels married to a CEM generator set. At the time they were the most powerful diesel locomotives anywhere.
Initially named 060DA they became CC64000 then CC65500 under the SNCF. Some of the class were still operational in 2010 - run by private operators.
