ETAT Saucisson Coaches

The ETAT/SNCF Saucisson coaches

REE began planning these in 2020 and announced them formally in 2022.  The models will incorporate fully detailed interiors with illumination.

The Saucisson coaches had a strikingly futuristic shape (for the 1930s). 55 coaches were constructed between 1936 and 1939 and in service until the 1980s.

These coaches were built like an aircraft fuselage with a monocoque structure - removing the need for a separate chassis, dropped the weight to 35 tonnes compared to around 45 tonnes for a coach built with a separate chassis. The bogies were fitted with roller bearings to allow 140km/h running.

Originally these coaches had air conditioning with steam heating used in winter and Ice loaded in summer.

The first service was the Paris-Le Mans electrified route. The ETAT 2D2 5400 electric locos were used

Under the SNCF, the coaches were used on the Paris-Cherbourg and Paris-Le Harve routes using 231G and 231D pacifics then the 141R Mikado steam locos. Later on the BB67000 and BB67300 Diesels were used.

The REE models will have the correct variations for 1st and 2nd class compartments with full interior detail visible through those large windows.

The first series are all SNCF liveries, a sensible choice as the in their later life the choice of locomotives was wider.
