They were designed to haul 400 tonnes, which was 10 express train passenger coaches, at the time. The S3/6 had a top speed of about 135 km / h. The class was renowned for smooth running - this was achieved with large diameter driving wheels, a four cylinder compound drive and superheated steam.. The fuel consumption was also kept low, so after only a few years of operation it was still possible to manage even longer distances of more than 800 kilometers. S3/6 No.3618 was considered a parade locomotive and received this Royal blue paint scheme.
The Prince regent coach was especially constructed on the request of the Royal household as they demanded a coach with the comfort they expected.

Roco  70202 DR Br02-0201 Steam locomotive (18 201) DCC Sound EpIV. HO In Stock

A locomotive with a special place in Germany - The "Versuchsanstalt Halle" intended to test new passenger carriages and therefore needed a fast-running steam locomotive. So the new locomotive 18 201 was developed on the basis and design of the high-speed tender locomotives 61 002 and the experimental high-pressure locomotive H 25 024. As steam generator was used a modified new boiler of the series 22 with an extended smoke chamber and a Giesl ejector. The locomotive was equipped with a counter pressure brake to enable her to precisely make her stick to the speed limits even when fast running. "Fast running" meant up to 175 km / h, which was the maximum speed the 18 201 was initially authorized to run with - later on the maximum speed was increased to 180 km / h, of course, only permitted in forward gear.

In 1967 the locomotive had an oil main firing installed. With the conversion to the new system of computer-compatible operating numbers at the DR in the year 1970, the locomotive was registered under the number 02 0201-0. The status as "traditional locomotive" she had already received during her times at the GDR. She often had the honour to haul special trains already in the 1980s, either on order of the DMV, or - foreign exchange generating - for Western tour operators. In 1985, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the German Railways, the locomotive received for the first time an exit permit to the West. At the time the locomotive was one of the major attractions at the Nuremberg exhibition.

Roco  71814 SBB Ae8/14 11851 Electric locomotive DCC Sound EpIV. HO In Stock

Electric locomotive Ae 8/14 11851 of the Swiss Federal Railways.

New design !

■ Redesign of a distinctive individualist with loco noses of the Ae 6/6
■ Delicate separately applied wipers
■ Chrome-plated emblem at the front of the locomotive
■ Delicate pantographes
■ Each of the two locomotive parts is driven by a motor (Digital operation via 2 decoders addressed with only one address)
■ Switchable driver's cab illumination

In order to transport the increasingly heavy trains across the Gotthard, the Board of Directors of the Swiss Federal Railways decided to build huge double locomotives. In 1931 the SBB put the Ae 8/14 11801 into service. Not only the technical concept of the Ae 8/14 but also the outer design was mainly based on the Ae 4/7. The monster was able to haul 2000 tons in the plain, or 1760 tons on 16 ‰ steep ramps and had a tractive power of 770 t on 26 ‰ mountain ramps. The giant was nearly 34 m long and had a total weight of 247 t.

In 1932 the SBB received one more Ae 8/14 which had the number 11851 and was considered as the successor vehicle of the 11801. Although the locomotive had the same weight and dimensions as the previous model, the power output could be more increased and had even 6070 kW (8250 hp). Instead of the "Buchli" drive, however, the 11851 got the "SLM" universal drive installed which had sixteen traction motors. The "SLM" drive definitely increased the power output but was also extremely loud, prone to failure and uneconomical.

During conversion in the year 1961 the locomotive received new welded driver's cabs for seated operation similar to those of the new Ae 6/6 locomotives. The 11851 was still operating in this partially modernised design until 1976, and was then taken apart in 1977 in Bellinzona and scrapped in Biasca.

Our current H0 model reflects the locomotive in this partially modernised look during her last 15 years of operation, equipped with many new functions in the digital version.
