Based on the Br50 the Br52 was simplified to speed up construction and cheaper materials were used as they were never intended to be long lived. In all around 6,700 were manufactured. The low, 15t axle load and their simplicity meant that they were surprisingly long lived - Austria kept them until 1976 and Poland still had locos operating in the 1990s.
Br52 3679 was Manufactured in 1944 at the Vienna Floridsdorf plant. After the end of the war this locomotive was passed to the ÖBB and worked heavy ore trains in the Graz area - it's last major overhaul was in 1978 and after this it entered preservation and operated in Austria until the 1990's. In 2003 the locomotive moved to the Netherlands where it has been operational - It's livery seems to have varied between a deep black/grey and a mid shade of grey (Similar to Wehrmacht tank grey)
